COVID-19 Virus Statement
As we come to terms with the growing challenges of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, our focus remains first and foremost in providing surgical care in a safe environment for both our patients and our staff.
Although routine non urgent surgery will not longer be undertaken, we will continue providing care to new and existing patients, and remain open Monday to Friday.
All patients in pain will be seen as a priority.
Changes to protect our patients, staff and the wider community will include :
- Telephone screening of all patients prior to entering the surgery.
- COVID questionnaires for all patients upon arriving the surgery.
- Temperature testing of all patients and accompanying persons who enter the surgery.
- Alcohol hand wash to all persons entering the surgery.
- Daily temperature testing of all staff in the surgery.
- Accompanying family and friends restricted in overall numbers.
Any persons with any signs of symptoms of illness will NOT be permitted into the surgery.

Dr. Patrick Mehanna and Dr. Bobby Yang are Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in Newcastle who treat a wide variety of conditions affecting the jaws and face. Their surgical interests range from dental extractions, bone grafts, complex facial trauma, corrective jaw surgery and micro-surgical reconstructive and pathology.
Following completion of both his Bachelor of Dentistry and Bachelor of Medicine Degrees from the University of Sydney, Dr. Patrick Mehanna completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training in NSW. He was awarded the FRACDS (OMS) Surgery Fellowship in 2007 and awarded the 2007 Examination Medal for the best examination performance in Australia and New Zealand. Dr. Mehanna has also spent 3 years in the United Kingdom (England, Wales and Scotland) for further specialist training as well as completing a Head and Neck Surgical Fellowship in London and Scotland. In addition to his Specialist Fellowship (FRACDS OMS), he also holds, by examination, a Surgery Fellowship awarded by the Royal College of Surgeons of London (FDS RCS Eng) as well as a General Fellowship awarded by the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (FRACDS). Dr Mehanna also holds a part-time position as a Staff Specialist Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon at John Hunter Hospital.
Dr Yang gained his degree in Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) with credit from University of Otago, and Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from University of Auckland and MFDS RCS from England. He was awarded multiple prizes during his studies including Sir John Walsh Prize and Peter Milne Prize. His extensive post-graduate experience includes training in Derbyshire Royal Infirmary in the United Kingdom, Middlemore Hospital in New Zealand, John Hunter Hospital, The Canberra Hospital and Westmead Hospital in Sydney. Dr Yang was awarded his Surgical Specialist Fellowship FRACDS (OMS) in 2014.
In addition Dr Mehanna and Dr Yang have experience in Emergency Medicine, Plastic Surgery, Trauma and General Surgery. As both Dr Mehanna and Dr Yang hold Medical degrees, they also have access to Medicare.
