Why can Microsurgery help you?
Nerves and arteries can often be damaged around the head and neck and often require microsurgery or reconstructive surgery to be repaired. This damage can occur from trauma or sometimes unrelated surgery for other conditions.
As a highly trained trained micro surgeon with training in London, Wales and Scotland, Dr Mehanna is able to micro surgically repair nerves and vessels to regain use.
Reconstructive Surgery
Reconstructive Head and Neck surgery involves moving healthy tissue (skin, muscle or bone) to replace those removed in cancer operations or trauma.
While smaller defects are often reconstructed with movement of tissue from the local area, larger defects require complex microsurgical reconstruction. This often involves transplanting tissue from one part of the body (arm, thigh or lower leg) to the face using microsurgery. With such techniques large areas of the tongue, jaw or face can be reconstructed.
Dr. Patrick Mehanna routinely performs Microsurgery and Reconstructive Surgery at John Hunter Hospital, Newcastle.
